“I’m glad you’re back and all,” Tanya replied to Caden with an affectionate squeeze of his shoulder. “You’ve grown into a beast to be proud of, and I’m lucky I got to see that.” It had been an awkward meeting to be certain, but to have resolved some part of their relationship felt like a fresh start, and it made the older vixen’s heart swell with pride and emotion to have been given this opportunity to rebuild something with the marten.

She couldn’t resist a quick ruffle of Daniil’s headfur, grinning in a manner which, for a beat, didn’t quite match her eyes. “Oh don’t you worry, I‘m fully intending to go have a word with your uncle very soon.” The expression softened, then. “I’d be more’n happy to talk to you about those days. Both of you. Your parents’ legacies live on in you, but sometimes it’s the little stories which tell us more’n all the history books, about who they were eh? You just tell me the time an’ place and we’ll meet up for a chat about it.”

One more brief hug and at last the diminutive vixen disengaged, heading for the doorway. “Now you two look after each other and we’ll speak again soon. Don’t be strangers – come see me any time you need.”
