DESCRIPTION:
Yfanti is an albino ferret, white-furred from her muzzle to the tip of her tail. She appears taller than she actually is, too thin and spindly to appear elegant. Her eyes, a pale red, dart from side to side often, uncertainly, as though always searching for something just out of vision. They're highlighted by a pair of large, circular glasses, precariously cradling her muzzle. Despite her reputation as a healer, perhaps even a doctor, the jill is fragile, unkempt and frail-looking, her fur often stained with ink – notes she writes for herself – or various other substances used in her practice. Sometimes the stain is blood, rarely her own.
In terms of clothing, she dresses in whatever is available, usually simple clothes of various drab colors – contrasting darkly with her white fur. Yfanti also wears jewelry – a smattering of symbols on a string around her neck, though they are not symbols meant to be seen.
BIOGRAPHY:
Yfanti was born in a town not far from Bully Harbor, in 1738, to Kazna Z. Agitacija and Telmund Walzetung. Her mother, Kazna Z. Agitacija, had been raised in a monastery in southern Hrushka, a place called Jazbina. Left to the order after the loss of her family in an apparent freak accident, she was raised and educated in a religious environment and contextualized her difficult life through the lens of curses, supernatural evils and the need for repentance and divine protection. Plagued by various sicknesses and weakness throughout her childhood, Kazna seemed to find purpose and peace in adulthood, only to lose everything in 1732, when the monastery was destroyed. The sole survivor, Kazna fled her increasingly war-torn country, arriving in the Imperium in 1734, seeking out family in Bully Harbor.
Kazna met Telmund in 1737, perusing his family's apothecary in the Trenches. A short romance followed, followed in short time by pregnancy and then marriage, though it was never a terribly happy one. Living in the Slups, Kazna was plagued by nightmares and supposed visions, Telmund by family disgrace and a gambling addiction, joined in time by alcoholism. A sickly, fragile child, Yfanti did not make many friends in her youth, shunning the sunlight that seemed to burn her eyes, and the mud and filth of the city that dirtied her white fur. Nevertheless, as the situation in the Imperium decayed in the late 1740s, she tried to make herself useful, working at the apothecary shop in the Trenches as an apprentice.
One day, Telmund was gone – taken by the war, his letters home ending before the conflict did. Not too long after, Kazna vanished mysteriously, leaving Yfanti alone. With nothing else in her life now, Yfanti threw herself into her work, helping to sustain the apothecary through the years of chaos and rebuilding. When the store finally changed hands in the early 1760s, she'd already been practically running the place, and the new owner has kept her on, at least for now.
POSSESSIONS:
A few books and tomes relating to her trade or to her mother's religion, but mostly only what she needs to survive, kept in a small apartment in the Trenches, not too far from her place of work.
