Imperial scholars have long speculated that there exist either branches in the current timeline, alternate universes with different conditions, or perhaps both. The Ministry of Innovation, in conjunction with the Ministry of Misanthropy's Occult division, have been actively investigating these claims to see if they are true or if there is some way to view or even enter such deviant realities, but so far all known experiments to do so have failed spectacularly, often in the death of the would-be traveler. It is rumored that the Minister of Innovation possesses an ancient Vulpinsulan staff called the "Rhettkahn" that could potentially tap into and unlock these higher mysteries, but the Duke of Westisle firmly denies this and says even if this did theoretically exist the consequences of using it are too dire to use.
