A typical starting place is Deckswab or Able Seabeast, but it's perfectly normal to come into one of the open Officer, Warrant Officer, or more senior Rating positions if the character fits. You may also join the Marines, the Hide's "police" force. There are three fundamental ranks in the Hide's Marines, being Lieutenant, Sergeant, and, er, Marine.
