DESCRIPTION:
A tall, black squirrel with strong, broad shoulders and a stocky build. She has a splash of white piebald fur across the left side of her face and down her neck. Her right eye is a pool of unreadable black, her left an unsettling, piercing blue. She wears the uniform of a Vice Minister of the Ministry of Niceties when on duty. Off-duty, she can typically be seen in finely made clothes with a masculine lean to her style, and she easily passes as male if she so chooses–a strategy she has found helpful in certain circumstances throughout her adult life.
She is missing her left leg just below the knee, and wears a complex and advanced prosthesis constructed of articulated metal, wood, and leather. There are several rumors amongst the young Unsmudgables that the prosthetic leg can be converted into a projectile weapon akin to a crossbow, or that it contains throwing daggers, or that beneath the boot there is a metal footpaw with retractable claws, or any other manner of wildly concocted story.
BIOGRAPHY:
Orina’s family was part of the wave of woodlanders to settle in the Imperium in the 1730s. Her father took an administrative role in Niceties. To keep a teenage Orina safe and out of trouble amidst a less-than-friendly populace, he enrolled her in the school offered by the Ministry to the offspring of employees. She found herself drawn to two aspects of her schooling: music and a program designed to select for beasts who are Unsmudgable material. Orina excelled in both realms, becoming an accomplished pipe organ player and joining the ranks of the Unsmudgables as a Rangeblade before she reached her twenties.
The following years saw her developing a reputation in the Unsmudgables for her skill and straightforward efficiency that sometimes put her at odds with her administrative superiors when her actions in the field skirted the line of what was acceptable conduct. However, those who worked alongside her on missions found the squirrel to be a loyal and irreplaceable asset with a strong bent towards leadership.
She was promoted to lead her own squad for both domestic and international interests of Niceties. During this time, she encountered and developed something of a professional rivalry with one Dusk Rainblade, the two crossing paths more often than coincidence might indicate.
In 1757, Orina was on an assignment that went awry due to a mistake in intel at the level of her superiors. She was severely injured as a result and lost her leg, effectively removing her from the field. During her recovery in Pyrostoat, she was visited by her rival-turned-Minister of Misanthropy Dusk Rainblade. The two developed a friendship, and it was Dusk’s spies in Niceties who discovered that the mistake that led to Orina's failed mission and injury was purposeful, meant to permanently and conveniently remove her from field operations.
Thus began Orina's personal vendetta against the powers that be within Niceties. Just as she did within the Unsmudgables, the squirrel rose through the ranks with keen efficiency, playing whatever role necessary to get in the good graces of those she needed to impress. While she made changes within the Ministry at various ranks, her endgame was the position of Minister. And for that, she needed assistance from her friend, Dusk, the Ministress of Misanthropy.
In addition to her political aspirations, Orina has made a name for herself in the concert hall as an organist. She can frequently be found practicing late at night on the only pipe organ in Bully Harbor within the Niceties Philharmonic concert hall. Her performances on stage both as a soloist and accompanist have been lauded by Imperial music critics.
A private individual, she has kept her personal life well away from that of politics and work. It is unknown if she has family beyond that of her parents who still reside in the Harbor. She dwells in Zann's Backyard.
