DESCRIPTION:

A light-furred pine marten with lively, blue eyes and and pleasant smile, Asta fairly exudes grace and charisma. Her playful laugh and generally jovial demeanor give her a captivating presence on stage--a space she loves to occupy. She typically can be seen wearing light blouses and flowing skirts of northern Varangian make and design, and she is rarely seen without a simple silver chain and locket around her neck.

BIOGRAPHY:

Asta was born to her parents Rayna Bielke and Einar Dalgaard, farmers in northern Varangia. They lived a simple life, her parents having settled down to start a family after a life on the road as entertainers in their younger years. Both were singers and dancers, and her father was a skilled lutist. Asta learned her parents' trades and took up archery at a young age to help provide food for the table in lean seasons. After she was born, her mother was frequently ill, and when Asta was eight, her mother died during a harsh winter. For four years Einar continued to raise Asta on his own until he met a rough-around-the-edges, yet charming, mercenary at the tavern where he performed for extra money. The mercenary, a Caden Freemont, hailed from a distant land, and seemed ready to hang up his sword upon falling for Einar.

Wary at first of her father's new love interest, Asta began to warm to the former mercenary when he proved to make her father happy while being actively engaged in her life and interests as well. Though he was a terrible farmer, Caden took well to family life, and was able to bring in income for the struggling pair as a martial trainer at the nearby town's military barracks.

For five years, the family lived in relative peace and stability. Asta loved listening to Caden's stories of his travels and the wider world. The pair formed a strong friendship.

Caden was in town when the mercenaries came for him at his home. They killed Einar and captured Asta. She did not know who the beasts were. They spoke a foreign language and kept her tied up and blindfolded in a wagon, then in a building. She was huddled in the dirt in a separate room from her captors when she heard the first screams. The fight sounded horrific--she had never heard anything so viscerally horrible in her life. When everything quieted and somebeast came into the room, she was sure she was a deadbeast.

But it was Caden's reassuring voice who spoke to her, and his gentle paws that removed the blindfold and untied her. He was covered in blood, some his, some of other beasts, and his eyes behind his spectacles--somehow still perched upon his nose--burned with fury and fear. He held her close, and Asta knew her life would never go back to what it had been.

The two fled. They fled the only home Asta had known and took to the sea to escape whoever it was who had targeted Caden. He took them to the only place he thought would be safe, the place he once called home.

In Bully Harbor of the Vulpine Imperium, Caden purchased a condo in one of the safer areas of the city and instructed Asta to never venture away from the sector without him. Asta, however, at the cusp of adulthood, was keen on exploring their new home and learning the way of things in this new land. She had heard that a beast with her talents in music might be able to garner a following at one of the many taverns...
