Physical Description
One can tell rather quickly when seeing Tobin for the first time is that he has led a life of hard labour. Something that seems…unusual for a citizen of the Imperium. And thats before he opens his mouth and reveals a thick accent from across the seas. He sticks out like a sore thumb with a thick wide back as well as arms from rowing for years. As well as several scars across his back, arms, and hands from a whip. He tries to cover these but with his current state of affairs they won’t stay hidden for long. His light brown fur is also thin, giving away that hes not a normal Searat. The few possessions he has as the ship hes trying to command eeks its way into port are also none standard. Coinage from a far away land and several stolen goods with Imperium symbols on them. With a long coat style not of the Imperium and bearing dangerous symbols. Of pirates and slavers. It remains to be seen if he can explain whats going on before the Navy blows him out of the water.

Inventory and Real Estate

  • A badly damaged and hastily repaired vessel. A Galley that is likely in Imperial records as the ‘Chained Sun’. Formally captained by a ‘mad’ Otter who is nowhere to be seen.
  • A crew of twenty six Pirates, many of them injured and all of them exhausted. Along with forty five remaining Oar slaves who are not doing much better. Slave and Pirate are working together to row the vessel toward land as others are on deck trying to decipher the out of date semaphore book they have to try and signal their new intentions before the canons are finished loading.
  • A spear with the bottom half of an oar. Made during the hasty repairs as the food stores ran down.
  • The previously mentioned blue sea coat bearing the marks and symbols of the Fleet of Teeth. An enemy of the Imperium. As well as a standard white shirt, tan pants, and red bandana around his neck. The scars on his hands visible as he starts to hold up the flags under direction from ‘his crew’.

Personality
While he currently needs to talk a lot to try and get the two groups under his impromptu command, Pirates and Slaves, to work together to try to survive Skew was a Slave for twenty two years. So tends to be rather quiet and unassertive. Especially when ‘betters’ are around him. As well as still being eager to please and do good work. But when he is given the order to speak he will try to talk your ear off. He kept his sanity by talking when he could back on the ship to both sides. So seeks it out when he gets the chance. Despite being beaten occasionally due to his talking on the ship making connections with the Pirates did get him and other slaves aid and food on the sly. So he sees who you know to be the most important thing he can do. Especially with the situation the Chained Sun is currently in.

Strengths
- Very strong with a lot of endurance. If you need things moved hes your rat.
- While still new to trying to explain and help others work together he so far has done a good job at it. Generally by explaining things in simple terms that he can understand. As death by drowning and starvation didn’t care if you were chained up or not. So grab that oar!

Weaknesses
- Has no education at least structured like. While he may be decently ‘street smart’ he would struggle with technical issues and problems. Cannot read or write.
- Has a thick accent as Vulpinsulan is his second language. Its unlikely he will find others from where he formally ‘plied his trade’ unless they are escaped slaves or in prison for holding such slaves.

History
Picked up with his older sister when he was six from a small coastal fishing village Tobin had the ‘honor’ of watching his parents be executed by a Hare. It was all they deserved for being filthy pirate and pirate supporters after all! By now Tobin doesn’t even remember if that was true anymore. He was dragged off to the ship and chained to the oar. Get to rowing Vermin! Or feed the sea. The Chained Sun had a mix of Vermin and Woodlanders as the ruling class on board but the Hare Captain styled himself as a hero to the people. Seeking out any ship he didn’t like and raiding it to keep others safe. The loot was impressive! And the screams loud even in the hold. As were the canon balls that tore through the hull. The slaves unchained to work on patching holes and bailing water. The young rat paid as much attention as he could to these impromptu lessons. Wanting to do well to perhaps get more food. Or get beaten less. Talking to the other slaves when he could about where they came from and who they were. Trying to remember. And to take his mind of what was going on.

He was not that popular for often reminding his fellow slaves about the life they had before this. But over time they would take the time for a little bit of escape like he reached for. Also learning the basics of Vulpinsulan from them. His sister soon taken for the pleasure of the Pirates. Before joining the crew herself. This at least improved the slaves situation slightly with one of their own on the other side of the chain. At least for a year and a half before she had forgotten where she came from. But a coup when Tobin was twenty also improved things for them as the Otter who kicked the Hares head over the side of the ship had big plans for the ship. And those big plans required the ship to return to a friendly port and have repairs and upgrades done to it. More time to learn and do good work. Hestra starting to make a name for himself as a hard worker. A good slave worth many coins! Don’t want to lose that to starvation. The extra food given to the other slaves as much as he could.

The rowing and raiding soon began again. But the ship was now much more dangerous. Gaining the ire of the Imperium. But the victories got to the Otters head. And a week ago he moved right into an Imperium ambush. The ship badly damaged but able to fight off the two vessels who attacked it and working the oars double time to get away. Unfortunately into a storm. The ship taking even more damage from the rain and wind as the slaves just tried to hang on as the creaking and cracking was all around them. Tobin soon finding himself holding a broken oar. Quickly getting to his feet with the fear all around him from the Slave Master and Slaves he pushed past the Master and leapt up the stairs three at a time to get to the deck. Out. Where they went didn’t matter. But they needed to get out.

The issue quickly revealing itself as the Otter Captain had been swept over board, as well as many other officers and Tobins sister. But action was needed now. Not arguments about orders. So Tobin would run to the wheel and grab hold. Screaming at where any land was. Any! Death would take them all if they didn’t go now! The Pirates who had been trying to shout over the storm that they were in command now drawing weapons on the Slave before a large rock of the ship helped to remind them of how dangerous their location was. So they relented. And soon the ship was out of the storm but rapidly taking on water and losing supplies. Any land. Any! A small island thankfully close as the ship was run aground to stop from sinking. Before out came the blades again in Tobins direction. And standing at the wheel with blood dripping from some opened scars from helping the Steersrat Tobin would just pat his stomach and frown.

“Is there food here, friends?” They would look over the small island and respond there was not. “Then if you kill me I hope I feed enough of you. Or all of us will be dead within the week.” Jerking his chained hands over the side to show the trail of crates and bodies out to sea. “All of that? Ruined. We need a map. A plan. And some repairs. We work together out of this. Maybe survive. Or we argue and all die eventually.” The blades retracted as the slaves were unchained and soon traveling with the Pirates to try and recover what they could from the shallows and cut down wood to try and patch the holes in the Sun. Tobin soon unchained and moving among them with his snapped oar. Quick to smack both Pirate and Slave who tried to fight as he reminded them death - within a week. Especially once the map was brought out and the rough guessing of where they had gone during the storm put them deeper into Imperium territory. A vote was held as both groups worked on repairs. Trying to get back to Tooth territory would be impossible. They didn’t have enough food to make it or proper materials to make repairs last long enough even if they did. What they did have was booty and loot from the Imperium. Kept mostly safe on the middle decks while the lower deck supplies were lost. So the decision was agree-ed on by a majority of the entire crew. Sail toward the Imperium. Trade stolen loot for supplies? Start a new life? Prison? But they had to get somewhere with food. They could work out the rest once they were not in danger of dying. A small ceremony held from those who had perished in the battle or the storm before the ship was pushed back out to sea. Both sides needing to take turns at the ore with the crew so depleted as they all wanted to live. Having to run the ship day and night to hope to get to land again before the ship entirely failed. Tobin, to his surprise, given the Captains second coat and elected as the new Captain for having some kind of plan and getting it started at least as they got under way. His broken ore soon fitted to a spear head as a gift from his new crew. As well as a ‘pirate’ name from his former Masters - Skew.

So the Chained Sun slowly limps into sight of Imperium docks, Tobin doing what he can to try and signal those on other ships and land that.

Though how accurate he is with the flags is up for him to find out soon.

Excited to see what you do with this concept. Might have a hard time without other players writing members of the crew of his ship, if your intent is to continue using it with him as captain, but I think there is potential, and who knows - maybe that's something people would be interested creating characters for.
