Winter was starting to fade from Bully harbour with the snow falling lessening every day, the temperature starting to rise, and the first sign of new sprouts peeking out of the ground as spring came into being. Yet the frost still kept its icy grip on the city, with a soft layer of white hanging on the remaining grass and in the corners of windows. A soft rain had fallen during the day causing pockets of ice to form where it had pooled. The day came and went with the usual hustle of the grand city quickly turning into night as the sun fell beyond the horizon, the earlier cloud had cleared revealing a tapestry of wonders in the sky above with swirling nebulae and sparkling stars. The moon hung above the city below, seeming so close with her bright light and elegant patterns and yet always out of reach even in the certainty of her light.
Miothiyle wrapped up warm for the evening, wrapping her paws up against the frost and slipping on several layers before grabbing her bag and heading out into the night. The streets were quiet for the most part, those that weren't asleep would be confined to bars at least for the next few hours, with luck the huntress would avoid any of their revelry and be out long enough to avoid closing time. The frost crunched under foot, not needing any light to guide her through the winding streets from her lodgings out onto the main road, and then from there out of the city gates and towards the wilds.
It was a path she had traveled often enough, a ritual she had done several times since coming to the Imperium. The wilds were her home, finding a quiet spot along winding trails, perched under great trees that had stood for generations, covering traveller and feral alike. Here was much the same, with a healthy underbrush and wide canopies reaching out to Helios' light. Tonight though they bathed in the light of Saline, the light making it almost as bright as day as the lone vixen made her way through familiar bush to a small clearing nestled off the beaten track. She wasn't quite sure how a cypress tree had made its way to the imperium or how long it had been her, but judging from the grandeur of it, at least a hundred or more years. Miothiyle couldn't help but wonder what stories it could tell having stood for so long and seeing the imperium grow.
Carefully she set her things down by the trunk and began to clean off a small altar she had constructed at its base. It wasn't anything fancy but then the great huntress wasn't one for grand temples and honorifics, Artemis was in most epithets a simple goddess. The altar was a rock, a flat river rock propped up to act as a table whilst not interfering with the local wildlife. Upon it Miothiyle placed a small cup, a purple backing with intricate art of birds and flowers, a valuable piece and one she treasured dearly.
"Artemis Pôtnia Therôn
, I bring you gifts for the month to come, to bring good hunting, and offer me guidance with your light through whatever challenges may come" Her breath misted in the night air, hands feeling stiff in the cold despite the gloves, as she tried to uncork the bottle pouring into the cup. "I bring you fine wine and a fresh hunt this morning." Unwrapping the bloodied package and placing the body of Pheasant at the altar, she had managed to bag it along with a number of Blackjay during her hunt. It would be a fine offering for her mother but she did have others to pray to this evening.
"Lady Demeter, goddess of harvest, as your daughter returns from Hades and you bring life once again to the world. I thank you for the food you provide and wish for a prosperous growth this year not for myself but for all those that rely on you for sustenance. I offer you fresh bread from the grains of last year and seeds so that they may be spread by the birds to grow in your and Lady Persephone's name." The seeds were local wild flowers, ones that would bring colour and provide sustenance for bees should they flower.
Miothiyle made a point to ensure her offerings would do no harm to the ferals that may come upon them, something would eat the pheasant and the whole point of the seeds and the bread was for them to be eaten. The wine would be washed away or emptied to the earth when she collected it the next week. She bundled against the cold and looked up to Saline's light before reciting hymns for both of the goddess, by the time she had finished the cold was almost too much. Pulling the blanket closer she rose from her spot and rolled up the other one that she had laid out. Placing her hand against the tree and shaking off the frost, taking a final breath and turning back for the city and the warmth of her room.
