In the prime universe, Vaelora Ryalor was a beloved Fyadorian princess, a warrior, and a mother. Slain in the summer of 1734, her assassination became the turning point in Vulpinsulan-Fyadorian relations, sparking a cold war that would not end until the 1755 unification of the Imperium and Eastisle. The crux of this conflict boiled down to a slander perpetuated against her person by Mayor Anithias A. Freedom, who used the power of his office and the bully pulpit to whip up public sentiment against the Ryalors.

In another universe, however, things happened a little differently. In that universe, a strange technology known as 'radio' had enabled beasts to speak into a strange machine, and the sound of their voice would then be played, either instantaneously or at a delay, in another place and time via a separate device. In that universe, rather than retreat into the Fyadorian compound to hide from the popular uprising, Vaelora Ryalor instead took to the radio, giving a wide-ranging interview in which she appealed to the better nature of the masses. In that universe, the interview was enough to defang the Mayor's propaganda, leading instead to a peacefully negotiated settlement between House Ryalor and the government of the Imperium.

In this universe, Vaelora Ryalor lived to see her kits grow up, and served for thirty years as ambassador for the Fyadorian government in exile, retiring at the age of fifty into private life. She still recalls that day in 1734 fondly, and wonders how her life would have turned out had she not given that fateful interview.
