Non Canon Character Discussion: Magic. How Would Your Character Use It?

Hi guys, I have recently been thinking about how I never see any high fantasy settings for Redwall or Redwall adjacent roleplays. Obviously, it isn't going to happen here, but regardless, I think it would be fun to imagine what it would be like. So if magic did exist, would your character have it? And how would they utilize it? I will give you an example below with Silvertongue. I imagine he could cast spells with his lute.

Attack
  • Bass Clef Blast
    • Bass Clef Blast is a sound/energy based attack, the speed of which depends on the frequency of the notes played. Higher-pitched notes are fast, and lower-pitched notes are slow. Faster notes are less powerful than slower notes.
Abilities
  • Defensive Dotted Minim
    • Defensive Dotted Minim is a three-beat note that, when played, increases Silvertongue’s, as well as all allies within a 30-foot diameter, resistance to damage for 10 seconds
  • Comforting Crochet
    • Comforting Crotchet is a one-beat note that when played increases the speed of Silvertongue and all allies within a 30-foot diameter, and allows them to heal by damaging their enemies. This effect lasts for 10 seconds.
  • Boosting Breve
    • Boosting Breve is an eight-beat note that when played, will increase the damage capabilities of Silvertongue and all allies within a 30-foot diameter for 10 seconds
Power Limits
  • Silvertongue can only use the Bass Clef Blast and one other power simultaneously
    • For example, if Silvertongue plays the Bass Clef Blast and the Boosting Breve, he can only play the Defensive Dotted Minim if he stops playing the Boosting Breve.
    • Silvertongue must use the Bass Clef Blast to damage enemies before activating a secondary power.
    • Silvertongue can not have two secondary powers active at the same time.
Ultimate Ability
  • Ancestors’ Wrath
    • When Silvertongue is in critical danger, he can call upon his ancestors to possess his body, enhancing his magic abilities for 30 seconds before they are expelled back to the spirit realm.

Magic based on musical instruments is one of my favorite methods. It's so fitting for Silvie! I adore how you made it so the spells string along into a tune of battle!

I honestly love this idea a lot, too. As a fan of the Foxcraft Trilogy by Inbali Iserles (highly recommended read by the way) I've always loved the idea of foxes holding mystical powers. I'd love to take some time to write my own imagined powers based on those.

How very bard of you! :3 I like all the names you came up with!
Hard to say what kinda magic my characters would use. Maybe something involving a magic sword, like one that can control the winds and tides or that's unbreakable and un-dullable or something.

So, will post fuller thoughts later, but basics as follow:

Dusk: charm and stealth magic. Distraction abilities, sneak attacks against those charmed or distracted.
Bezine: card magic, very Gambit
Eirene: epic anime attacks with her glaive, throwing bolts of energy across the field
Morgan: You know Lieutenant Armstrong from Fullmetal Alchemist? That's her. Punch magic all the way.
Falun: Ooh, this is tricky. I think a lot of battlefield manipulation, feinting and goading attacks, things like that.
Marianna: support caster all the way, lots of buff spells, maybe some illusion magic to misdirect attacks.
Mina Rose: I know she hasn't really been introduced yet, but I'd say she's probably a charm caster like Dusk is, albeit a little more innocently coded. Lots of stun effects from her being too much of a cinnamon roll to attack.
Aran Mateu: this one is honestly tricky because he's such a fighter that seeing him as a caster is hard for me. I'd say probably some whirlwind attacks with his ganive tipal dagger and stick combo.
Corda & Cordan: ooh, this is actually fun. I'd imagine them as a lot of twin transposition magic, swapping out between the two, teleporting between spaces, a lot of "now you see me, now you don't" magic. Each would definitely have unique attacks that would cause them to switch off between the two, setting up for interesting combos.
Pomodu: hugs. Lots of hugs. Absolutely a healer/tank, shields others with her fluff while giving them healing hugs.

I am pretty sure Kaii would be an artificer. Mixing magic with technology to build wonders that utilize them both. At the same time he is a fighter so I presume he would be sort of a spellblade focused on offensive and speed.

For abilities he would have? I think most of his spells would in some way affect metals or machines. Albeit it very much infringes on another character I do have so I am not sure if that is the way to go :p

But he would definitely be the calm and collected type in any fight, actively looking for weaknesses and trying to use any openings and logically sound gambits... while using experimental attacks and spells.

Vihma, if a magic user, would perhaps have some sort of fire magic - both for thematic reasons and simply for her fur coloration.
The rest, I couldn't really say. Maybe the normal wizard spell routine for my more academic characters like Aiken. If going for more of a Master of the Five Magics approach, Aiken and Neame would be more like sorcerers, Willard a magician, Dugald an alchemist, Vihma maybe a thaumaturge...

Rhana, I could see having more lightning-based abilities, if for no other reason than that I associated a song invoking lightning ("Lightning's Hand", by Kansas) with him back in the day. Haven't written or decided enough of her to know more.
