PHYSICAL DESCRIPTION:
Isbrand can be described as pretty average for a sable, at least height-wise. It’s not exactly obvious with how many garments he wears, but his body has shriveled up with age. Still, he carries himself proudly (well, not when he’s standing before beasts taller than him, that is) and keeps his head lifted up slightly at all times, especially when he wants to gaze at someone smugly.
Isbrand’s fur is of a very dark brown color, though he does sport a bit of gray around his muzzle and throat. It’s consistently (and suspiciously) glossy and silky everywhere except for one specific spot, which is his tail. He’s rather… sensitive, let’s say, about how thin it is, but he’ll never admit it.
He has a narrow, elegant head. There is a reason why Isbrand is seen as rather handsome in some circles, it’s all in his eyes. Magnificent depths of black, as he himself says. His long ears have a few nicks on them, though he refuses to elaborate on how and when he really got them.
One can’t just describe Isbrand’s attire and forget about it, it’s simply impossible because he’s always ready to astonish the crowd with his extensive wardrobe: robes, cloaks, tunics — all kinds of flowing garments, usually in tastelessly varied but faded colors. All of this is not stored in an actual wardrobe, clearly, since he has few stable possessions and no permanent home to speak of. How he manages to keep everything hidden in his robes is a great big mystery. Isbrand also seems to be a lover of hats. The fancier, the better.
PERSONALITY:
At his core, Isbrand is a performer, an artist of sorts. He lives and breathes to impress others with whatever tricks he’s able to invent, and because of that, he often gets lost in the act. He’s been doing it since he was young and foolish, and the mask became his muzzle. Isbrand is unaware of it, but he’s slowly descending into complete buffoonery and perversity.
Isbrand has seen seasons, beasts and entire nations come and go, so he’s naturally become wise enough to pass as a magus. Given his delusions of grandeur, he probably considers himself to be time incarnate, whatever this is supposed to mean. He can ramble on and on about his escapades, real or not, if he finds a good listener or two. And for a fee, obviously. Isbrand can’t quite control his greed, but everybody (even all-powerful magi) needs to eat, so that’s excusable. And he’s just so charming, how can anyone refuse to sacrifice their firstborn to him?
Eccentricity aside, he is actually a laid-back fellow. Sometimes all he wants is to feel the earth beneath his paws. Isbrand has abandoned the concept of boundaries and restrictions a long time ago to wander the world in relative peace. Maybe this is the reason why he’s admired by creatures small and shy.
However, despite Isbrand’s chaotic tendencies and his hubris, he can be easily bribed by more influential or just terrifying figures. He is deathly afraid of losing another beast’s trust, letting them down, so he’ll tear himself in half just to receive a bit of praise. And money. Still, Isbrand is still a free beast at heart, and he won’t truly serve anyone for long. Some may call it disloyalty, but Isbrand only supports someone’s actions when he himself receives some kind of reward for it.
But what about genuine relationships? Does this beast know what true companionship is? It’s not obvious, but he does. Unfortunately, Isbrand has never had any long-term bonds in his long life. He doesn’t regret much, but still, he longs for friendship.

BIOGRAPHY:
As Isbrand himself states, he was born on a cold but strangely light night, in the faraway realm of Luftschloss (at least this is the name he mentions in his tales, the authenticity of it is debatable). His parents were “simple beasts” who created small mechanical toys for a living. Isbrand was their youngest son, so they strived to take great care of him. He doesn’t quite remember his siblings, though. He was an adventurous little cub, always looking for new experiences. At the young age of sixteen, Isbrand bid farewell to his parents and began the journey he’s still on to this day.
He’s been to all kinds of places: small towns, cities, isles without names, the courts of monarchs, ancient ruins… but he always refused to stay anywhere for long. Constantly on the move from an unknown malevolent force. It’s not exactly unknown, though. What he avoided the most was the wrath of whatever authorities his persona concerned.
He returned to his homeland only to visit his parents. When they passed, he abandoned all of his plans just to give them a proper funeral. After that, he left Luftschloss permanently.
Isbrand got used to collecting various items during his travels. One such item was the Humble Blade, his trusty weapon, which he got as a present from a Fyadoran swordsmith. Isbrand’s completely and utterly real magical acts attracted a wide audience, so he surely received his fair share of gifts from easily impressionable beasts.
Deep down, Isbrand craves comfort and security. Wants to recline in an armchair, basking in the sun and surrounded by those who admire him. But it’s just a simple dream. A castle in the sky…
POSSESSIONS/REAL ESTATE:
Clothes, lots and lots of clothes.
A wakizashi which he named “The Humble Blade”. Very humble of him.
A coin purse, often tragically empty.
A collection of trinkets from distant lands, magic equipment and other doodads.
A genuine skull of a squirrel known only as Pepin. Isbrand uses the poor beast’s remains for parlor tricks.
An elongated conch shell which is actually a makeshift hearing aid.
