PHYSICAL DESCRIPTION:
A tall black-furred wolverine, with streaks of gray appearing along his nuzzle, around the tips of his ears, and over his tail. His eyes are sunk deep into his head, they are black and one can just barely see the irises if one looks very deep into them. The fur over his body is thick and long. He is never seen without his midnight blue coat and staff, which he often handles as a walking stick even though he obviously has no need for one.
PERSONALITY:
A beast of a few but often very effective words. He gives off the aura of a very knowledgeable creature but without revealing the true extent of his skill or abilities, or lack there of. He puts a lot of effort into what the other beasts see and hear, leaving his true interests and desires a mystery. This mystique and strangeness only helps him, since the impression of a powerful yet charming warlock lead many to him to ask him for advice or services.
STRENGTHS:
He is able to talk in great details about the occult, is familiar with many texts as well as their popular interpretations, along with what common beasts know of the subject. He uses this knowledge to convince others of his abilities to communicate with the unknown ones, ask spirits for favors, use black magic, and make predictions about the future of the imperium. There are beasts out there who believe he is capable of those things, and have even said they saw it with their own eyes, but the rumors of his knowledge of chemistry, sleight of hand and other performance tricks certainly give those accounts an alternate explanation.
WEAKNESSES:
Physically, his best days are behind him. His size is a hinderence as much as an advantage, and his body is getting fraler and fraler every day. His act hasn't changed much over the past 3 decades, and he's slow to adopt new trends in his trade.
BIOGRAPHY:
Very little is known about the so called professor's life. What is certain is that he was born Nattpels Daggrystjerne in the port city of Masnach, or perhaps in another settlement close by, and that nothing noteable happened to him or his family in the next 30 years, or at least nothing noteable enough for any local records to reflect. According to Nattpels much later on, he was a very curious and bright kit, he had great interests in historical reinactment and performance in his youth, and earned a living as a beloved entertainer. However when the "hard times" came he began working various jobs to get what little food was available. While he is likely referring to the famines and other troubles of the 1730s and decades following, he refused to be specific on the details and claimed that "The unknown ones were punishing us for our lack of courage", and would laugh away any attempts to ask about what specifically he did to survive. It was in 1735 when his infamous pseudonym Professor Rosmakh W. Dowganosyv first appeared in the archives, an advertisement in Masnach's most read newspaper at the time inviting the citizens to a grand demonstration of magic. Only a few days later a letter to the editor of the same newspaper got published, which said in part: "This 'Professor Dowganosyv' who plays a Fyadoran magician is nobody other than our village idiot Naatpels Daggrystjerne, who was only a few weeks ago telling us of the bountiful feasts under Heyla that waited for us if we accept his spitting woodlander gods as saviors". After this scaving letter Dowganosyv was mentioned often and in different places in the Northlands. Most mentions were surprisingly tempered, especially the ones outside of Masnach. Many of these accounts also confirmed the professor and naatpels were the same person, but none of them mentioned anything about his life, especially nothing to do with the woodlander cult the first letter brought up. At first Dowganosyv was a performance magician and alchemist, a common entertainer trope in the Northlands, but he quickly began claiming that he possessed great abilities through his knowledge of the secret and the unknown. His performances and excentric personality were warmly accepted in Caer Eira Haf, which must have encouraged him to speak more and more, claiming that all Northlander gods and spirits were like little rodents to the unknown ones, that a Northlander jarl was going to be a minister of the Vulpine Imperium which was going to conquer them in peace, that woodlanders will be the key to bringing about the new age of the world, that wolverines will be instrumental in that transformation and will be greatly rewarded for their service, and that, crutially, this new age will cause great trouble and suffering to the skeptics and the stubborn. Even the most open minded of Caer Eira Haf's residents got tired and a little afraid of Dowganosyv, and now that nobody in the Northlands wanted to listen to him the wolverine set sail for the Vulpine imperium, which would come to his lands only a few years later as he predicted. Along with him came a disciple, an ermine kit named Levin who couldn't have been more than 15. Dowganosyv treats him with great care in public and doesn't tell others much about him, and so far Levin has remained even more mysterious than his master.
POSSESSIONS/REAL ESTATE:
A long black staff, which he pretends to use as a walking stick or a magical wand, but in truth it's the handle of a stealthily hidden polearm. Pushing on a barely noticeable bump along the top would cause a long thin blade to push out at great speed, which he imagines could come in useful if he ever has to fight somebody. He has a collection of books on the occult, some scented candles and herbs, and a few chemical tools. He rents a little apartment in the barracks.
