PHYSICAL DESCRIPTION:

Thick-limbed, broad-chested and of solid stature, Prakoso is every inch a fine example of his binturong kin. His thick shaggy coat, a rich dark charcoal tipped with silver from tufted ears down to his long powerful tail, regularly resists all attempts at taming.

There’s something almost sleepy about his broad face and soft brown eyes, framed by a veritable explosion of whiskers at the end of his snout, in contrast to the heavy paws and their large claws. Small round ears are pierced, the only jewellery he wears.

Clothing is practical for flexible movement and wear, made from quality fabric indicative of his status. His wardrobe combines loose shirts, jackets or robes with equally loose trousers or wraps. Waist sashes or belts hold his sabre and kris. Since arriving in the Imperium, he is less inclined to wear his more formal jackets.

PERSONALITY:

Stoic might be a word which crosses the mind of a beast who speaks with Prakoso, but on closer inspection equable may be a closer fit. He is calm and measured in both movement and mannerisms, generally quiet and reserved. He can be exceedingly – almost infuriatingly – patient at times, a gift he attributes to traits of both personality and stature. Some have taken his laconic manner to signal a sort of dawdling, oblivious nature. Some have discovered what happens when his patience runs dry, for once Prakoso’s mind turns to dealing with a problem he is a beast of swift, decisive action.

They are polite and well-mannered; a soul deeply committed to their duty with full trust in the judgement of his own moral compass. He has been gifted with a rare and enviable duty in life, and he does not take such a burden lightly. Indeed, the matters of justice, duty and loyalty are all key tenets of his beliefs which he upholds vigorously. Beneath the calm exterior lies a bleeding heart who will gladly help any beast in need if they are deemed deserving.

Were he more socially adept he might consider himself a friendly sort, for Prakoso does enjoy the company of other creatures (always listening more than talking), but work has little afforded opportunity for such pursuits.

STRENGTHS:

- Equipped with a prehensile tail, Prakoso is a naturally talented climber though few would think of it based on his build. This tail is often used for balance, grip, or extra carrying capacity. On rare occasions he can be seen training to triple-wield, though this is a skill he is still honing.

- Prakoso genuinely tries to do right by others as much as he can. Sometimes this has mixed success, and his no-nonsense methods can complicate matters, but his heart is in the right place.

- A gentle flame of creativity burns within, particularly when it comes to passion for poetry whether read or self-written (though he would rather eat the page than let another read).

- Decisive and experienced in his profession, adept at assessing threats and planning accordingly. Rock-steady.

- Deeply loyal: once befriended, Prakoso will lay down his life.

- They are possessed of a dry sense of humour and unconscious knack for comedic timing.

WEAKNESSES:

- Prakoso sees many moral situations in a black-or-white manner and does not tend to sway from these beliefs.

- His protective nature can feel smothering: he is hardly an unseen protector and there’s little chance for him ever managing stealth.

- Theirs is a life of devotion, and he would not know what to do without some purpose or direction.

- Whilst well-trained for guard work he has lived in a stable and secure kingdom with little opportunity to test his mettle in real chaos.

- Said work has left little space in his life for hobbies, socialising, or for understanding the complexities which can underpin relationships. He can be manipulated or misled easily enough and is reasonably naive about the lengths beasts may go to for their own ends.

- Though at great pains to adapt to the Vulpinsulan language and culture, the initial barrier has meant that he can miss jokes or misinterpret others. This has left him somewhat insecure and hesitant to engage socially.

BIOGRAPHY:

Prakoso hails from a distant forest kingdom of Lipadilugoto far across the ocean from the Vulpine Imperium; a vibrant, prosperous land ruled by a long-standing lineage of red pandas. Their family lineage has long worked within the palace of the royal family in varying roles across the generations, serving as anything from advisors to tutors, chefs, recorders, guards, artisans or diplomats. There was no questioning the expectations on his shoulders from birth.

When princess Pomodu lu Modokunomulo was a youngster it was noted that she was growing fast above those of her own age. Though already under the watchful eyes of palace guards, it was decided that she would be well served by having a playmate and protector robust enough to tolerate her hugs. Prakoso was deemed ideal for the task, only a few seasons her elder and a likely candidate for guard work. He fell into the task with obedience and pride.

Their youth was thus divided between training for the prestigious task and acting as companion for Pomodu – always with strict instruction to respect their roles and defer to the princess. He indulged her obsession with this violent land across the seas which captured her imagination, often learning matters such as the Vulpinsulan tongue through osmosis and as necessary conversational partner, though he never understood it.

Despite the pressures of duty and the expectations of court, the pair became genuine companions and would sneak time together to play whenever possible. Even when she grew head and shoulders above him and duty called him to serve the wider royal family he would always make time to steal a conversation with her.

The death of Pomodu’s father caused the much-dreaded reshuffle of the royal family Prakoso had hoped would not come for seasons more. Furthermore, he had always hoped to escort Pomodu to her new venture when the time came. Unfortunately, her brother the new king had favoured Prakoso’s steady dedication and unflinching nature: he preferred the binturong to remain in his court. Though it grieved him to watch his kithood companion leave for such treacherous shores, one could not argue the word of his king.

Seasons turned and his talents progressed, the binturong ever-watchful for news and opportunities. At last as missives began to trickle through and confirm Pomodu’s exciting new life, he managed to convince the king to permit travel to this fabled land of golden fog and mysterious spirits to confirm reports, ensure the safety of the distant princess, and to enact whatever additional duties he has been given in secrecy.
