BIOGRAPHY:
Belladonna was born to two loving parents who ran a house of healing within the town of Tully Shore. They raised her with kindness and encouraged curiosity within the young mouse. Teaching her to read and write as well as the handling of numbers and measures. Her mother taught her how to mix cures, potions, and salves. Her father taught her how the body works, and how to put it back together with a precise hand. When she wasn’t being taught her parents craft they took her down to the docks and the markets so she could see the ships come and go, with sailors sharing tall tales of their voyages. This inspired the young mouse to know more about the world and what was out there.
From fourteen Bell began working on people and assisting her parents, putting her theoretical learning into practical care. Tools needed to be clean lest the Miasma take hold, potions needed to be made with precision lest the cure become a poison. Everything that had been drilled into her to become instinctive nature was now the difference between life and death. Sometimes though death was an inevitability and all they could do was comfort the poor soul in their last moments.
The family worked hard to support their daughter and grow her into a skilled woman of her craft. At eighteen she travelled to the city of Length and began furthering her knowledge with a formal education, the best the Imperium could provide. It was evident that she was above the skill of her peers, but never once did Bell hold this above anyone. Instead, she worked to help support her fellow students and assist them through their studies. Her professors adored her curiosity and passion to learn more, encouraging her to go further. In her spare time Bell took on further learning outside the medical field. Her time spent at the docks, listening to the stories of afar, had inspired her to learn more about cultures and people outside of the Imperium. Belladonna believed that by better learning about other cultures and their practices she could better treat and care for her patients. Healing arts foreign to hers could be the best way to provide treatment to those in need.
At the end of her second year she received news from home. Her father had been sick for a while, something neither he or her mother could treat. One day his body gave up and that was when her mother sent the letter. They had not wished to worry their daughter and distract from her studies, but could not hide it once he had passed. Returning home was a strange experience, word had spread around the town and many had come to pay their respects to the good doctor and support his wife through these trying times. Bell was given sympathies and gifts to help her through, her mother was just happy to have her daughter home.
“I want to know what killed him” With sharpened and cleaned tools Belladonna performed her first autopsy on her own father. It was there she found the strange growths over his liver and lower organs, something neither she or her mother had seen before. Returning to the university the next year she began reading into it, finding references to these growths. Confiding with her professors, they praised her skill and curiosity; keeping a steeled nerve under such an emotional tasking. It was unfortunate that there was nothing that could have been done to save him. Some growths could be cut out, but from where they were on her farther there was no hope of survival.
This gave Bell more determination to finish her studies, volunteering at the healer's house, and continuing to improve her skills. She graduated at the top of her class with the world out in front of her, spending a few more months in Length before deciding to move to Bully Harbour. From there she would find a ship willing to take her and see the world.
